Russia may extend Transsib to border with South Korea
VLADIVOSTOK, Sep 2 (PRIME) -- The Russian government is considering extending the Trans-Siberian Railway (Transsib) across the Korean Peninsula to the border of South Korea, turning it into a “friendship artery” with North Korea, South Korean Unification Minister Lee In-young said on Thursday during the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF).
“We also hope that the situation with inter-Korean exchanges improves very soon so that a train that departs from Busan could pass through the territory of North Korea, get to Vladivostok, and go on through other different routes that could be of touristic value,” he said.
“In this regard, we could see the Trans-Siberian Railway extended to the territory of South Korea not just an economic artery, but also as a friendship artery that strengthens peace and cooperation in the Korean Peninsula.”
